Russia will respond to large-scale attack attempts on its territory by increasing the number and intensity of strikes on Ukrainian territory, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement commenting on what it described as Kyiv's attempt to carry out a large-scale attack on Russian infrastructure ahead of the NATO Summit in Ankara, APA's Moscow bureau reports.
The ministry said Ukraine launched 625 drones at Russian territory during the night of July 6, adding that 613 of them were shot down.
"The purpose of the attack was Zelenskyy's desire to demonstrate to his sponsors ahead of the NATO Summit that he is ready to strike civilian targets in the Russian Federation from Ukrainian territory using their money. Kyiv's main efforts were aimed at damaging fuel and energy infrastructure and logistics facilities in the Leningrad, Yaroslavl and Kaluga regions, as well as in Crimea. The Russian military thwarted the large-scale attack planned by Zelenskyy during the NATO Summit and shot down the overwhelming majority of Ukrainian drones. In response, the Russian Armed Forces carried out a large-scale strike against military-industrial and fuel and energy facilities in the city of Kyiv and the Kyiv region," the Russian Defense Ministry said.
