Baku-APA. Arab leaders decided to maintain their opportunity for the international community to try to resume peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians, a top Palestinian negotiator said Monday, APA reports quoting News.xinhuanet.com web-page.
Washington and the Middle East peace Quartet, grouping the United States, Russia, the European Union and the United Nations, have to oblige Israel to restart negotiations after stopping settlements by the beginning of July, Saeb Erekat said.
The decision was made during the Arab League’s two-day summit which ended Sunday in Libya.
If no results are reached by July, the Arabs will resort to the UN Security Council and the International Court of Justice "to issue active, binding resolutions," Erekat said.
"If Israel wants peace, it has to show signs on the ground and stop its destructive polices in order to enable the international community to make peace and stability in the region," Erekat added.
Earlier this month, the Arab League had approved a U.S. offer for starting proximity talks between Israel and the Palestinian National Authority (PNA), but Israeli decisions to expand Jerusalem settlements shed doubts on the workability of the proposal.
