Trump invites Erdoğan to become founding member of Gaza Peace Committee

U.S. President Donald Trump has invited Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to become a founding member of the Gaza Peace Committee, said Burhaneddin Duran, Head of the Communications Directorate of the Turkish Presidential Administration, APA’s Türkiye bureau reports.

He stated that within this framework, a Peace Council and its bodies are being established, which will be responsible for ensuring security in Gaza and overseeing reconstruction efforts:

“U.S. President Donald Trump, in his capacity as the founding chair of the Peace Council, sent a letter on January 16, 2026, inviting our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, to take part in the Peace Council as a founding member.”

Note that the White House has announced the members of the Peace Council that will manage the transitional process in Gaza. In the Executive Council, which will support the Palestinian Authority in Gaza, Türkiye will be represented by Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.
