Top Trump administration national security officials will face questions from the Senate Intelligence Committee on Wednesday, where they are expected to be pressed on the war in Iran, APA reports citing CBS news.
Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, FBI Director Kash Patel, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, Defense Intelligence Agency Director Adams, and National Security Agency Acting Director William Hartman will testify at the annual worldwide threats hearing.
The hearing comes as the U.S. military and Israel continue operations in the Middle East, amid heightened concerns about terrorism following recent attacks at a Michigan synagogue and a Virginia university.
Lawmakers are also likely to raise questions about intelligence failures that may have contributed to a U.S. missile strike hitting an elementary school in Iran, killing more than 165 people.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said last week that U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has appointed an officer to lead an investigation into the incident.
The hearings may also probe internal divisions within the administration, following the resignation this week of Joe Kent as director of the National Counterterrorism Center. Kent said Tuesday he could not “in good conscience” support the administration’s war strategy and disputed claims that Iran posed an imminent threat to the United States.
Hours later, Gabbard—whose office oversaw Kent’s work—said in a carefully worded social media post that it is ultimately up to President Trump to determine whether Iran poses a threat, without stating her own position.
Gabbard and Ratcliffe may also face questions about recent intelligence assessments, including one suggesting U.S. strikes are unlikely to lead to regime change in Tehran, and another casting doubt on claims that Iran was preparing to strike first.
