Azerbaijan plans to join the Makkah Convention on combating corruption, Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev said during his speech at the third high-level meeting of the heads of anti-corruption law enforcement agencies of the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), APA reports.
He stated that Azerbaijan has ratified the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC), the UN Convention against Transnational Organized Crime, and the Council of Europe's Civil Law and Criminal Law Conventions on Corruption, and plans to join the Makkah Convention.
According to Kamran Aliyev, the judicial and law enforcement systems in Azerbaijan have been reformed to ensure the effective implementation of relevant legislation.
The Prosecutor General emphasized that the Commission on Combating Corruption is the body responsible for determining national anti-corruption policy, developing action plans and strategies, and overseeing their implementation.
"The Main Department for Combating Corruption is a specialized law enforcement body within the structure of the Prosecutor's Office responsible for combating corruption. The Main Department conducts preliminary investigations into corruption-related crimes and is authorized to carry out operational-search activities," he said.
