Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Friday that Tehran is ready to reopen the Strait of Hormuz if the United States meets its commitments under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) agreed in Islamabad, APA reports.
In an interview with state television, Pezeshkian said that the vital waterway will be opened if Washington lifts the naval blockade and sanctions, releases Iran's frozen assets, allows investment to proceed, and presses Israel to halt attacks on Lebanon. The president added that Oman had accepted that a shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz could be reopened "based on the map that was agreed" with Iran.
Additionally, Pezeshkian said that Iran is currently holding talks with the US, although they do not include the reopening of the maritime route. "Our talks with the other side are based on the same memorandum we had," he said. US officials have repeatedly denied that negotiations with Iran are ongoing.
