Delivering a keynote speech, Azerbaijani Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism Nazim Samadov said that application of tourism standards and development of legislation are very important.

He said that competition creates many opportunities for cooperation with countries: “Tourists prefer to visit a few countries in the region. Tourism is developed in accordance with the new requirements in Azerbaijan. The increase in the number of travel agencies, construction of hotels, tourists visiting Azerbaijan, despite many obstacles, are obvious. We are styding the international experience. We have developed a marketing program for 3 years, opened representative offices in Russia and Germany.”

UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan Antonius Broek noted that according to the statistics, tourism is one of the most important spheres in the world and an important field for the creation of new jobs: “14% of the trips are professional visits. There is a large number of oil and gas reserves in the country and it leads to professional visits. On the other hand, it is necessary to support increasing visits of private businesses. Revenues from the oil and gas sector are being directed to non-oil sector in Azerbaijan, Development Strategy for 2020 was adopted. This strategy also covers economic diversification. The historical territories of Azerbaijan are favorable for the development of tourism.”

Head of EU Delegation to Azerbaijan Malena Mard said that recalled that there are opportunities for beach and winter tourism in Azerbaijan: “Tourism still makes 2% of gross domestic product in Azerbaijan. This is a very low figure.”
