Azerbaijan develops special plan for restoration of Naftalan resort area

Currently, in accordance with the order of the head of the state, works are underway to make Naftalan a high-level sanatoria-resort center5.

Though a number of resorts were constructed here during the USSR period, most of these constructions are incomplete. According to Renessans Studio LLC, retreatment-tourism condition of the city will be improved. One part of the city will be sanatoria, other part – living area. 500-600 ha will be covered with green grass.

After restoration, Naftalan will be able to receive 10,000 tourists. Special cottages and hotels will be constructed here. One of the news is increase of personal individual houses. Through these houses, the tourists will be able to familiarize with Azerbaijan’s culture, culinary, city life.

Moreover, cable ways in the length of 1.7 km will be constructed.

The plan also includes the issues on construction of golf course, tennis courts, sites for horse riding, greenhouses, animal-breeding and poultry farms.

As it is known, “Naftalan” sanatoria operates near Zagreb, Croatia. Formerly, 400 tonnes of oil have been taken here. Therefore, pharmaceutical plant is planned to be constructed for processing mineral oil.

At the same time, airport will be constructed in Naftalan. The airport will require 89 ha area. Near the airport, a coach terminal will be constructed.

Moreover, areas of micro districts will be enlarged and number of population will be increased to 20,000.
