Today in Baku WB manager on Azerbaijan Larisa Leshchenko has stated that progress in the field of education in Azerbaijan is still not enough to enter in the number of high-income countries.
"According to our estimates, in Azerbaijan only 17-19% of school leavers continue their education in higher and special educational institutions, and it is very low even for countries with average incomes, while Azerbaijan is moving in the direction of the country with a high level of income, and this is unacceptable low indicator. Professional training is almost lacking. There are universities, but steps are needed to improve the quality of education further. In particular, it is needed a system that will provide professional skills to school leavers, and this system requires additional efforts and investments," Leshchenko stated.
She added that the bank is working with the Government of Azerbaijan in improving the quality of education, and if there is a need in any additional projects in this direction, the WB is ready to cooperate.
"Right now we are negotiating with the government of Azerbaijan in improving the quality of higher education in the country and are ready to bring the experience of countries that have made a breakthrough in this direction," Leshchenko said.
