Baku. Ramiz Mikayiloglu – APA. The Ministry of Emergency Situations has estimated possible outcomes of any accident in Sarsang reservoir. If an accident happens in Sarsang reservoir which is located in an invaded area, a water flow half a meter height will reach Barda which sits at a distance of 48 km. The water flow will destroy all the fauna that lie before it.
Ramiz Sevdimaliyev, senior research fellow at the ANAS Institute of Philosophy, Sociology and Law said while delivering a lecture on the subject “International political-judicial aspects of the threats posed by the occupied Sarsang reservoir to Azerbaijan” during the international scientific-practical conference titled “Global and regional hydro political problems in the context of international cooperation and security”, jointly organized by the Center for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the ANAS Institute of Geography named after academician Hasan Aliyev.
Sevdimaliyev said that expiration date of emergency equipments on Sarsang reservoir can be related with flooding due to climate change and other reasons. He said that Armenia is always using the reservoir as a mean of mass destruction against Azerbaijan: “Azerbaijan recently was forced to shot down Armenian helicopter. Armenia threatened to explode Mingachevir reservoir. 100 000 hectares of land were irrigated before the occupation. Azerbaijan couldn’t take advantage of these opportunities after the occupation. Terter, Barda, Yevlakh, Aghdam, Goranboy regions lost opportunities for irrigation via Sarsang reservoir. Armenia intercepts water in summer when people need much water and discharge water in winter that cause Terter river’s flooding. Local people use artesian water. Groundwater previously moved 25-30 meters, it moves 110 meters by means of artesian. As a result of it the structure of the soil changed, many plants do not grow in this soil. Problem of Sarsang reservoir can be solved in the context of the resolution of the conflict on occupation of Nagorno-Karabakh.”
