Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that holding elections online in Ukraine could be considered as a possible option, APA reports.
He made the remarks during an interview with Germany's ZDF television channel.
According to Zelenskyy, the Verkhovna Rada must develop an appropriate legal mechanism to make this possible.
The president noted that Ukrainian military personnel currently oppose holding elections because soldiers serving on the front line would be unable to participate in the voting process.
"There are millions of people in the trenches, and we cannot technically organize voting for them. Holding elections in which military personnel cannot vote is unfair. It is 100 percent unfair," Zelenskyy said.
The Ukrainian leader also claimed that he would be ready to hold elections during the winter if Washington could negotiate a ceasefire with Moscow.
"I told the Americans: You can negotiate a winter ceasefire with the Russians. Then people will have electricity and water. If everyone in the United States wants to replace me, we can also hold elections during that period. Perhaps the situation will change now, but at that time, it was certainly possible. So there was a chance," Zelenskyy added.
It should be noted that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio previously stated that holding elections in Ukraine was an important issue, but it was not the main reason for the continuation of the war.
