Gadi Eisenkot, leader of Israel's opposition Yashar party, has gained the support of the majority of parliamentary parties as a candidate for the post of Israeli prime minister, APA reports, citing the presidential administration.
According to the information, 67 of the 120 members of the new Knesset supported his candidacy.
This took place during consultations between lawmakers and Israeli President Isaac Herzog.
It should be noted that, according to the rules, following parliamentary elections, the Israeli president must task the leader of one of the parties represented in parliament with forming a new government. To this end, the president holds separate consultations with representatives of parliamentary factions. Each faction nominates one candidate for the post of prime minister.
The consultations began on November 4 at the presidential residence in Jerusalem and concluded on the evening of November 5.
