Baku. Rashad Suleymanov – APA. For the first time in the world, a unique operation has been carried at the Cardiovascular Center of the Main Clinic Hospital of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces .
Chief of the center, doctor Anar Amrah said at a press conference held today, APA reports.
According to A. Amrah, Shahin Gurbanov, who was admitted to the hospital with severe myocardial infarction on Nov.15, was diagnosed with the thrombus completely covering the expanded main coronary artery: “Despite the application of traditional tube intervention and drugs on the patient, no positive result was achieved. The width of the patient’s artery was 6 six times larger than normal. With a catheter used to melt the thrombus in large arteries and enhanced ultrasound waves, the thrombolysis was for the first time in the world applied on this patient as it was suitable for this patient. We were successful”.
The doctor also noted that after 12-hour treatment the arteries were screened again and the same arteries that were covered by the thrombus was found out to be completely uncovered. A rapid clinic recovery was seen in the patient’s health. He was sent home in satisfactory condition.
“It is gratifying that Azerbaijani military doctors have achieved the world's first successful result. We can say with confidence that with its medical provision and staff our military hospital has the capacity to provide the highest level of medical aid to the sick and injured," said A. Amrah.
The center chief also stressed that another operation, also a first in the world, was carried out at the Cardiovascular Center on Nov. 8. The operation of placing the aortic valve was realized on a patient with critical aortic valve stenosis and a 25% increase fraction in the heart, entering into femoral artery without anesthesia and without opening the thorax with a catheter. After the successful operation, the patient was sent home in satisfactory condition.
