The examinations revealed that 6,521 of them are carriers of thalassemia, 74 – AIDS, 362 – syphilis, according to Alimirzayeva.
It was found that 50 couples are carriers of thalassemia, she added. “Six couples refused to marry. However, there are those who in spite of the disease got married, six of whom are pregnant. One of them decided to terminate the pregnancy as perinatal diagnosis revealed a fetal disease. Other five women also underwent examination, but no disease was found in them.”
The director noted that there is an increase in the number of young people intending to undergo pre-marital medical examinations.
