Two books dedicated to Nizami Ganjavi were presented at the VIII Baku Global Forum, APA reports.

Speaking at the presentation, co-chair of the Nizami Ganjavi International Foundation, former President of Latvia Vaira Vike-Freiberga said that Baku has developed and prospered over the past years.

She said that the same development is not possible in other countries, the countries are facing crises and conflicts. "We are working together to overcome this. I look forward to the upcoming forum and I am confident that we will return to our countries with rich experience," said the co-chair of the Foundation. He added that this year has been declared the Year of Nizami Ganjavi in Azerbaijan, which is a sign of respect for the great poet and his work. "I am very glad to have studied the legacy of Nizami Ganjavi. Seven chapters in this book cover Ganjavi's work," he added.

Then another co-chair of the Foundation, former World Bank Vice President Ismail Serageldin spoke about the work done by the Nizami Ganjavi International Foundation.

"I am glad to be here today. In the coming days, we will share our thoughts and approaches. We will exchange views to respond to the challenges of the time. Technology allows those who cannot attend the forum today to participate online using technology and share their views, "Serageldin said.

Touching upon the importance of Nizami Ganjavi's legacy, he said that the poet's creativity and the points he wants to convey in his works transcend the borders of Azerbaijan.

Later, Robert F. Kennedy, President of the Human Rights Organization Kerry Kennedy addressed the event online. He said that the topics to be discussed at the forum are in line with the challenges of the time: "The world is in the transition period of COVID. It may take several years to restore the status quo, but with solidarity it will be possible to overcome all problems." He noted with regret that today the availability of vaccines is not equal for all countries, only 2% of African countries have been vaccinated. "We must solve this problem and work on it," he said.

He also touched on the issue of climate change and emissions, saying that countries should work on their commitments: "The UN report on climate change should be a challenge for every country. It shows the scale of the threat."

Kerry Kennedy added that today one third of the world's population does not have access to clean energy resources.

He said that the Foundation, as a global organization, should address these issues and cooperate with other countries and organizations to address them.

The authors of the presented books "Nizami Ganjavi: The Poet and the Sage" is Ismail Serageldin, and "Nizami Ganjavi's Seven Beauties and Other Essays on Literature" is Vaira Vike-Freiberga.
