Representatives of the Albanian-Udi Religious Community of Azerbaijan have visited the Ganjasar Monastery Complex, located in Vangli village of Aghdara district, APA's Karabakh bureau reports.
During the visit, religious rituals were performed, prayers were offered, and the memory of martyrs was commemorated.
Robert Mobili, Chairman of the Albanian-Udi Christian Religious Community, stated that one of the main purposes of the visit to the Ganjasar Monastery Complex was to preserve the ancient Albanian Christian heritage and convey the truth about this heritage to future generations.
According to him, a number of ancient Christian temples in Azerbaijan are examples of the religious and cultural heritage of Caucasian Albania. Robert Mobili noted that there is evidence that some temples historically belonging to the Albanian Church were Armenianized in later periods and alterations were made to them.
He stated that following a regulation adopted by the Russian Empire in 1836, the activities of the Albanian Apostolic Autocephalous Church were terminated, and its heritage was placed under the authority of the Armenian Church.
Robert Mobili emphasized that the Ganjasar Monastery Complex holds special significance in the historical heritage of the Albanian Church:
"Today, the truth has been restored. Karabakh has been liberated from occupation, and the doors of the churches have also been opened. We come and worship in our own churches. The Ganjasar Monastery Complex is one of the pearls of the existing Albanian Church of Caucasian Albania."
In his speech, the Chairman of the Albanian-Udi Religious Community also spoke about the attention paid to the preservation of ancient Christian heritage in Azerbaijan. He noted that visits by representatives of the Albanian-Udi community to historical temples are of great importance for preserving this heritage.
Robert Mobili also stated that Azerbaijan's environment of tolerance allows the Albanian-Udi community to maintain its connection to its religious heritage.
