The holy month of Ramadan has begun in Azerbaijan, APA reports.
The Fatwa issued by the Council of Qazis of the Caucasus Muslims Office (CMO) states that the first day of Ramadan this year falls on February 19 according to the Gregorian calendar.
The fatwa notes that this year the Ramadan calendar coincides with Nowruz, which holds a special place and national significance in the centuries-old history of the Azerbaijani people. It is recommended that the Nowruz tables traditionally set on Tuesdays be adjusted to coincide with iftar time.
As in previous years, the Caucasus Muslims Office has prepared a special calendar reflecting the daily prayers and the imsak and iftar times for Ramadan.
Laylat al-Qadr nights will fall on March 8, 10, 12, and 16. Eid al-Fitr is expected to be observed on March 20, depending on the sighting of the crescent moon marking the beginning of Shawwal. Due to the moon’s horizontal position, the Council of Qazis of the Caucasus Muslims Office will issue a separate announcement regarding the exact date of Eid al-Fitr.
The amount of fitr (alms) has been set at approximately 10–15 manats per person.
In connection with Nowruz and Ramadan holidays, March 20–30 will be non-working days.
