The Azerbaijani language is being taught in three schools in Armenia, APA reports, citing Armenian media.
According to Armenia’s Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports, Zhanna Andreasyan, Azerbaijani is taught as part of the government’s program to promote knowledge of regional languages.
The minister noted that only about 30 schools have joined the program so far. She added that Persian is more actively taught due to the availability of specialists, while Georgian is taught in three other schools.
Andreasyan stated that surveys show nearly 400 schools in Armenia have expressed interest in offering instruction in a regional language.
She added that while most schools have shown preference for teaching Turkish, the ministry faces a serious shortage of qualified teachers.
