The UK has recorded its highest number of days with temperatures of 30C or above in more than 30 years.
Temperatures have reached or exceeded 30C on 35 days so far in 2026, surpassing the previous record set in 1995, according to Sky News.
Forecasters say the UK could experience its fifth heatwave of the year next week, with temperatures expected to approach 35C in some areas.
The record comes after an exceptionally dry July in England and Wales.
The Met Office said July 2026 was the second-driest July on record for both nations.
England received just 6.5mm of rainfall during the month, about 10% of its average, while Wales recorded 9.3mm, or around 9% of its usual rainfall.
