The Pentagon has called on defense companies to accelerate the production and delivery of weapons and ammunition for the US military.
APA reports, citing The Washington Post, that US Deputy Secretary of Defense Stephen Feinberg has given defense contractors 21 days to submit plans outlining how they intend to significantly increase weapons deliveries.
Feinberg said production cycles lasting several years are no longer acceptable to the Pentagon.
Among the systems requiring accelerated delivery are the next-generation Next Generation Interceptor (NGI) missile defense system, NASAMS surface-to-air missile systems, mobile air defense radars and space-based missile tracking systems.
The move reportedly comes amid ammunition shortages that have emerged largely as a result of the conflict with Iran.
