The Lebanese government promised to complete the disarmament of the Shiite Hezbollah movement by the end of 2025, but has failed to accomplish this goal, so Israel remains in the buffer zone and operates independently, Dmitry Gendelman, an adviser to the Israeli Prime Minister, told TASS while commenting on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's statement on Lebanon at the weekly cabinet meeting on August 9, APA reports.

"Israel's logic is simple. The Lebanese government committed back in 2025 to disarming Hezbollah by the end of the year and hasn't fulfilled it. Therefore, Israel remains in the security zone and is dismantling this infrastructure itself," Gendelman said. He noted that "the prime minister's statement isn't rhetoric; it's backed by the concrete actions of recent weeks.
