Some priests protest against restoration of mosque in Georgiaâ€™s Bolnisi region

About 20 priests came to the village and demanded to stop restoration of the mosque founded in 1905. Bolnisi executive power and Kvemo-Kartli governor were informed about the incident.

Deputy governor of Kvemo-Kartli Huseyn Yusifov and deputy head of Bolnisi executive power Ramin Asadov visited Fakhrali. The priests said to the people and officials â€œyou have no right to build a mosque hereâ€. The people protested against them.

Huseyn Yusifov told APA that governor of Kvemo-Kartli David Kirkitadze informed Patriarch of Georgia Ilia II.
â€œPatriarch said measures will be taken about those who impede the restoration of the mosque,â€ he said.

Yusifov noted that those priests had other interests.
â€œThe position of the priests and the government does not coincide. There is a document permitting restoration of the mosque. Despite all obstacles, we will do our best to finish restoration of the historical mosque,â€ he said.
