President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has thanked U.S. President Donald Trump, APA reports.
A post to this effect was shared on the Azerbaijani President’s social media accounts.
The U.S. leader sent President Ilham Aliyev a commemorative gift consisting of a memorandum on the extension of the suspension of the application of Section 907 of the Freedom Support Act, accompanied by a personal note.
The Azerbaijani President thanked Donald Trump for his kind words.
“Dear President Donald Trump, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to you for sending me, as a commemorative gift, the memorandum on extension of waiver of Section 907 of the Freedom Support Act, accompanied by your personal inscription and kind words. I greatly appreciate this thoughtful gesture and hold it in the highest regard,” President Ilham Aliyev emphasized.
Note that in August last year, the U.S. President signed an order temporarily suspending the application of Section 907 of the Freedom Support Act.
U.S. House of Representatives member Anna Paulina Luna has introduced a bill aimed at completely repealing Section 907.
Adopted in 1992, the amendment prohibits U.S. government assistance to Azerbaijan.
Official Baku has stated that, taking into account the prospects for the development of Azerbaijan-U.S. relations and Azerbaijan’s growing role in the broader region, it hopes the U.S. side will take practical steps toward the complete repeal of the amendment.
