Most foreign companies operating in Azerbaijan prefer to reinvest their profits in the country, Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov said during his speech at the Azerbaijan International Investment Forum (AIIF 2026) in Baku, APA-Economics reports.
According to the minister, developments over the past six years have demonstrated how quickly a problem emerging in one part of the world can halt production in other countries. At the same time, tariffs, subsidies and export controls are increasingly influencing where strategic industries are located.
He noted that it is natural for all countries to strive for economic resilience, but this comes at a certain cost. Duplicating supply chains and restricting access to technologies in many cases lead to higher production costs. Maintaining openness to international cooperation and trade is becoming particularly important for smaller economies.
Mikayil Jabbarov said that although governments cannot eliminate all external risks, they can make their policies more predictable and demonstrate that agreements will be honored.
The minister emphasized that Azerbaijan attaches particular importance to fulfilling long-term commitments in building trust, citing the “Contract of the Century” as an example. According to him, more than 30 years of cooperation has not only contributed to Azerbaijan's socio-economic development but has also strengthened the country's position as a reliable energy supplier.
Azerbaijan currently supplies natural gas to 16 countries, 10 of which are members of the European Union. The number of countries to which Azerbaijan exports oil and petroleum products is even higher.
Mikayil Jabbarov added that long-term partnerships help attract new investment and reinvestment, and that most foreign companies operating in the country choose to reinvest their profits in Azerbaijan.
