Former President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma has sent a congratulatory letter to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, APA reports.
The letter reads:
“Dear Ilham Heydarovich,
I sincerely congratulate you and, through you, the entire people of Azerbaijan on the occasion of Independence Day.
I have visited Azerbaijan – this blessed land – many times. I heard about the heroes of your brave people's struggle for independence from my true friend, your father, the unforgettable Heydar Aliyev. Therefore, Azerbaijan's independence is not just a word for me. I know that the Ukrainian people view Azerbaijan not only as a friend but also as an example of national will that made it possible to regain lost territories and restore territorial integrity. You have achieved this, while we still have this ahead of us. This creates a special historical bond between our peoples.
I hope that the people of Azerbaijan also feel this and understand who their true friend is.
Please accept my most sincere wishes for the development and prosperity of your beautiful homeland.”
