“We have identified up to 2,500 cases of disinformation to date through the system we created at our Center for Combating Disinformation," Burhanettin Duran, Head of the Communications Directorate of the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye, said at the Turkic States Forum on Combating Disinformation held in Ankara under the organization of the Communications Directorate, APA's correspondent dispatched to Ankara reports.

He noted that social media is a space where numerous claims are circulated, often without verification. “As we all observed during the Second Karabakh War, the struggle was not only on the military front but also on the information front. During and after the war, numerous disinformation campaigns were carried out to cast a shadow over Azerbaijan’s victory.

By debunking these false narratives, we effectively supported the Karabakh victory on the information battlefield as well. I would like to share one example of the disinformation we identified at that time. A fake news story circulated under the headline ‘Azerbaijani soldiers mock an elderly Armenian woman in Karabakh.’ The claim suggested that one soldier offered water to the woman and, as she tried to drink it, another soldier poured it onto the ground. However, the full version of the video clearly showed an Azerbaijani soldier personally helping the Armenian woman drink water.

Unfortunately, today it is possible to cut and manipulate footage to present it in a completely different way. With artificial intelligence, videos can also be created and altered in misleading forms,” he said.
