Within the framework of the Organization of Turkic States Media Forum, a panel session dedicated to the topic “Sustainable and preventive measures against growing global information threats in the modern era: on the example of the media ecosystem of the Turkic states” was organized, APA reports.

At the session, foreign experts discussed the joint fight of OTS countries against disinformation, increasing media literacy, and the prospects for forming a sustainable and secure media ecosystem across Turkic states.

During his speech at the session, Natiq Mammadli, Deputy Executive Director of the Media Development Agency, noted that if artificial intelligence is not used properly, it can pose certain threats to the media.

“But artificial intelligence at the same time means new opportunities. Artificial intelligence cannot reach the creative potential of humans. Today, the media representatives participating here understand the impact of artificial intelligence better. Negative tendencies created by artificial intelligence also exist. In recent years, we have encountered various forms of this. For example, the creation of fake videos misleads public opinion. Serious steps must be taken to prevent such cases.”

During his speech, Dauletkhan Zhienkulov, Deputy Director of Kazakhstan’s “Khabar” agency, spoke about why the transition to a common Turkic alphabet has been delayed for so long:

“Transitioning to another alphabet is not that easy. There are many books and information repositories written in the Cyrillic alphabet. You might say that this can be solved with artificial intelligence. But it should be noted that there are political and other aspects to this. Philologists are working on this process. True, the process has been prolonged. I hope that in the near future we will have an answer on this issue.”

In other speeches, experts emphasized the importance of deepening cooperation in the media field among Turkic states with shared historical and cultural ties, forming unified media standards, and promoting mutual experience exchange in terms of responding adequately to modern challenges.
