"It is surprising that the Ministry of Intelligence of the Islamic Republic of Iran has included several foreign media outlets, including Azerbaijan's state television channel AzTV, in its list of 'enemy media organizations' and threatened individuals cooperating with these outlets with criminal liability," the Media Development Agency said in a statement, APA reports.
"There is no doubt that while the Republic of Azerbaijan remains committed to protecting the professional activities of journalists, it also ensures the application of the principle of reciprocity. Thus, under Article 11.4 of the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan 'On Media,' if other states impose special restrictions on the professional activities of journalists included in the Media Register, the same restrictions may be imposed in the Republic of Azerbaijan on journalists of the state that introduced such restrictions.
Taking into account the requirements of the relevant article and the principle of reciprocity, the activities of the media outlets 'Sahar' TV channel and Mehr News Agency, as well as their representatives, which act against the national interests of the Republic of Azerbaijan and conduct propaganda against the country's sovereignty, constitutional order, territorial integrity and national security, are considered illegal within the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
We call on all media entities and journalists operating in the Republic of Azerbaijan to refrain from cooperating with the above-mentioned media organizations and their affiliated representatives that act against our country's national interests. We once again emphasize that international cooperation in the media sphere should be carried out solely on the basis of mutual respect and the professional independence of journalists," the statement said.
