A conference on the topic “Proper Application of Azerbaijani Literary Language Norms in the Media” is being held, APA reports.
The event began with the first panel session titled “Compliance with the Norms of the Azerbaijani Literary Language and Speech Culture in the Television and Radio Space.”
The panel was moderated by Rafiq Hashimov, Deputy Chairman of “Azerbaijan Television and Radio Broadcasting” CJSC.
Kamran Hasanov: “Many important steps have been taken to preserve the literary language”
Kamran Hasanov, Head of the Media Relations Sector of the Department for Work with NGOs and Communication of the Presidential Administration, stated that many important steps have been taken in the direction of preserving the literary language.
Gulshan Akbarova: “Sometimes sufficient attention is not paid to the norms in the speech of presenters and guests”
Veteran announcer and journalist of Azerbaijan Television, Gulshan Akbarova, emphasized that as a television professional, she constantly follows various channels: “Naturally, certain shortcomings can also be observed on air. Sometimes sufficient attention is not paid to syllable stress, phonetic, lexical, and grammatical norms in the speech of presenters and participating guests.”
Saadat Mammadova: “Language violations arise precisely against the background of a lack of love for the language”
Deputy Chair of the Press Council, Saadat Mammadova, noted that education in the mother tongue has fallen into the shadow of education in other languages: “Language violations arise precisely against the background of a lack of love for the language. These violations have already become a serious signal for society.”
Orthographic and orthoepic dictionaries are being prepared
Director of the Nasimi Institute of Linguistics of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), Nadir Mammadli, drew attention to the important work currently being carried out at the Institute of Linguistics: “Orthographic and orthoepic dictionaries are being prepared, and systematic work is being conducted on the language corpus. All these projects aim to ensure the purity, stability, and development of the Azerbaijani language.”
The panel session continued with discussions.
It should be noted that the conference is jointly organized by the Media Development Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Press Council of Azerbaijan.
