# 10 July 2026 13:20 (UTC +04:00)

An international conference titled "Media and Decolonization: Rising Voices, Empowered Narratives" will be held in Baku tomorrow, organized by the Baku Initiative Group, APA reports.

The conference, which is the first such platform organized in Azerbaijan with the participation of media representatives from colonial territories, will be held in an interactive format between journalists from those territories and representatives of the local media.

The conference will be attended by heads and representatives of media organizations representing former and current colonial territories, journalists, political commentators, representatives of diaspora organizations, media and communications experts, representatives of civil society institutions, researchers, diplomats, representatives of state institutions, and members of the local media.

At the conference, the role of the media in amplifying the voices of peoples and ethnic minorities subjected to neocolonial exploitation and living under colonial rule in the international information space, as well as the challenges ahead, will be discussed.

Special attention will be paid to the coverage in the international media of colonial realities that have long remained in the shadows, including the economic exploitation of territories, the plundering of natural resources, the erasure of cultural identity, systematic discrimination, repression against indigenous peoples, as well as policies aimed at deliberately altering the demographic composition of the indigenous population through incoming settlers, as exemplified by Kanaky (New Caledonia) and Bonyera.
