The Azerbaijan Press Council has assessed the documentary film aired by Germany's Deutsche Welle (DW) platform about the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia as contrary to journalistic principles, expressing regret over the media outlet's anti-Azerbaijani stance, this was reflected in a statement issued by the Press Council regarding the documentary published on Deutsche Welle, APA reports.
It is noted that the documentary was produced by the French Armenian lobby and was published on Deutsche Welle in translated form without alterations. The film includes video footage depicting the tragic situation of peaceful Azerbaijani civilians: "From portraying the individuals in these scenes as Armenians who left Karabakh, to featuring only ethnic Armenians as 'experts' - numerous elements demonstrate bias and violate professional journalism standards.
Deutsche Welle's overt pro-Armenian position is unacceptable. One can conclude that the broadcaster intends to serve the local interests of forces seeking to misguide European and global public opinion and maintain tension in the South Caucasus. The media outlet's tendency towards fraud and professional abuse manifests itself in attempts to clothe the conflict situation between Azerbaijan and Armenia in religious garb. This is an extremely false and dangerous approach deliberately circulated in the language of Armenian propagandists."
Based on recent unpleasant experiences, the Azerbaijan Press Council emphasizes the importance of German and Western media collectively refraining from actions that could likely hinder the establishment of stability, security and prosperity in the South Caucasus, and considers adherence to journalistic principles as an indicator of appropriate attitude towards the region's current sensitive situation."
The Press Council once again expresses regret regarding Deutsche Welle television channel's unprofessional conduct. This activity constitutes an unacceptable approach and deals a serious blow to the peace agenda in the region. The Council calls on the media outlet to refrain from presentations that could create new confrontations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, to avoid sacrificing fundamental truths to absurd perspectives and thoughts, and to implement changes in its broadcasting policy by adhering to objectivity and impartiality."
