In shaping the common future of the Turkic world, the media should not only be an information transmitter but also a main actor that creates strategic agendas, said Javid Valiyev, a member of the Board of Directors of the Center of the Analysis of International Relations (AIR Center) during his speech at the Turkic States Forum on Combating Disinformation held in Ankara under the organization of the Communications Directorate of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Türkiye, APA's correspondent dispatched to Ankara reports.

Javid Valiyev stated that the discussions around the topic “Common Future of the Turkic World and Media” highlight two main questions: the essence of the common future and the role of the media in this process. According to him, there are three main sources that guide the concept of a common future. The first source is the idea of Turkic unity, which began to take shape in the late 19th – early 20th century, and this idea was mainly based on language and alphabet unity.

The second source has been identified as the political and institutional decisions adopted by the Turkic states. In this context, the Nakhchivan Agreement, the final declarations adopted as a result of summit meetings, and the 2040 Turkic World Vision Document were specifically highlighted.

The third source has been evaluated as the statements made by heads of state and foreign ministers regarding the future of the Turkic world.

Touching on the opinions expressed at the forum, Javid Valiyev said that almost all country representatives proposed the creation of a joint platform for combating disinformation. According to him, the formation of such a platform and the implementation of leadership on a rotation principle among the countries will ultimately lead to institutional unity.

The expert emphasized that the factors leading the Turkic states to unity are not only common language, history, and culture, but also a shared destiny. From this perspective, journalists should be aware of this responsibility when preparing news and approach events from a unified viewpoint.

Valiyev noted that it is important for the media to adopt two main strategies in building the common future of the Turkic world. The first is combating disinformation, and the second is agenda-setting.

The expert also touched on the main risks to the common future. According to him, some foreign regions and countries present Turkic unity as a threat to themselves, and this stance is promoted both politically and in the media sphere. As a result, targeted disinformation campaigns are conducted against the idea of Turkic unity.

J.Valiyev emphasized that 100 years ago, the idea of unity in the Turkic world began to take shape through newspapers and literature. Today, however, Turkic journalists have real and historical opportunities to complete this unfinished integration process. According to him, Turkic world politics should not be reactive but a strategic direction, and the media must become one of the main pillars of this strategy.
