Baku. Kamala Guliyeva – APA. “Being Azerbaijani state we can not discontinue radio broadcasts. We have no intention to do it. We are not the owners of these radios. One of the owners is BBC and the other is the US Association of Broadcasters. We can only take measures for the conformation of the broadcast of these radio stations to the world standards,” chief of socio-political department of the President’s Office Ali Hasanov said while commenting on tomorrow’s meeting of the National Television and Radio Council on foreign radio broadcasts in Azerbaijan, APA reports. According to him, the methods, by which these radio stations are broadcasted in foreign countries, can also be applied in Azerbaijan.
“We are neither competent nor decisive to act the other way,” he said.
Ali Hasanov said the position of the National Television and Radio Council (NTRC) was based on the law on “Television and radio broadcast”.
“Azerbaijan, as the member of the Council of Europe since 2001, has been conforming its broadcasting activity to the standards of the Council of Europe. One of these standards is the requirement of the Council of Europe in the field of managing television and radio space and national frequencies. Azerbaijan, which is going to join Convention on Trans-Border Television, should apply its law on national television and radio all over the country and make it in line with the standards of the world television and radio space. Therefore, I think that the council’s meeting will meet the demands of Azerbaijan’s law on broadcasting and conformation of Azerbaijan’s broadcasting activity to the standards of the Council of Europe,” he said.
