Imprisoned editor-in-chief of Mukhalifet (Opposition) newspaper Rovshen Kebirli and correspondent Yashar Agazade complaining of their detention conditions sued Justice Ministry, Media Rights Institute told APA.
The journalists state that they undergo violation of law. They were kept in Yasamal police office for two days after being arrested on May 16, 2007 while they were to be sent to detention place #1 as stated in the court verdict. Their relatives and lawyer Rashad Hajili were not informed about their places.
Rovshen Kebirli and Yashar Agazade say that their detention conditions are bad.
“There are 24 beds in the cell, while the number of prisoners is 30. No conditions have been created for the prisoners so that hey can meet with their lawyers,” they say.
The journalists ask Yasamal district court to pass a decision on regarding their detention conditions, not creating conditions for their meeting with lawyers as illegal, transferring them to another cell. The journalists also demand compensation of AZN 100,000. /APA/
