“The defense of the journalists whose rights violated must be in focus with reconsideration of court- media relations. Court decisions should be influential but not educative. Moreover, declared penalty verdicts should take into consideration budget receipts,” Press Council chief Aflatun Amashov told APA commenting on the situation of press of the country. Aflatun Amashov said press bodies are not able to pay penalties as they are very high. Press Council chief added the penalty should be adequate to offensive action.
“If journalist offense someone purposely he should be punished,” he said.
Aflatun Amashov said it is important that journalists should enhance their professional qualities. According to him, the situation in country press will be debated in the meeting of Press Council in the near future. “We will search ways to settle the problems. The problems of press’s current situation are rooted in finances. Press Council submitted the project on State Care for press development to President’s Office. The issue is under consideration”./APA/
