Rights defense committee for editor to hold rally

The Defense Committee of the Rights of Eynulla Fetullayev, founder and editor-in-chief of â€œGundelik Azerbaijanâ€ and â€œRealniy Azerbaijanâ€ newspapers has not yet determined the date of the rally, Arzu Abdullayeva, chief of the committee, head of Azerbaijani bureau of Helsinki Citizensâ€™ Assembly told the APA. She said that committee will picket in Sabir park early in May and organize roundtable on the arrest of editor-in-chief on May 3.
Shaveled Chobanoglu, chief editor of â€œGundelik Azerbaijanâ€ newspaper told the APA that the date of the rally has not yet been determined, as there are different proposals, but there is no divergence on the venue.
â€œThis action is connected with the defense of journalists. Therefore, all political parties joined this committee will demonstrate unique position. They can demonstrate different position only in their own protest actions,â€ he said.
Chobanoglu said the date and venue of the rally will be determined at the next meeting of the committee.
There was divergence among the parties on venue of the rally at the first meeting of the committee. Musavat Party offered to hold rally in venues allowed by Baku Mayorâ€™s Office, and Azerbaijan Popular Front Party wanted the rally to be held in the center of the city. /APA/
