Eynulla Fetullayev said the remarks were not uttered by him but by deliberately by unknown sources. We appealed to the National Security Ministry to investigate it. The ministry said they will answer it soon,” commenting on the arrest of Eynulla Fetullayev, editor-in-chief of “Gundelik Azerbaijan” and “Realniy Azerbaijan” newspapers, Aflatun Amashov, chief of Azerbaijani Press Council told the APA.
Amashov said they are have exact information about Eynulla Fetullayev’s involvement in the website ATC.com.
“If somebody made report about Khojaly residents’ killing by Azerbaijanis, it is unwelcoming, no matter who said this. He can be reproached or adequate steps could be taken about him. But a journalist has been arrested. We are always against arrest of media representatives for their expression. Therefore we want the articles 147-148 of the Criminal Code to be amended. All these damage the image of our country. But journalists should not forget their duties before society and their profession,” he said.
Amashov said that this case and facts on journalists’ undergoing pressure will be discussed at the meeting of the Board of the council. /APA/
