Istanbul hosts 14th OANA General Assembly

Baku-APA. The 14th General Assembly of the Organization of Asia Pacific News Agencies (OANA) was held in Turkey`s capital of Istanbul. The event brought together heads of OANA member agencies, including Azerbaijan State Telegraph Agency, AzerTAc.

Opening the meeting, director general of Anadolu Agency Hilmi Bengi wished successes to the 14th meeting.

Addressing to the event, president of OANA Ahmad Mukhlis Yusuf recalled the 30th OANA Executive Board meeting and President Ilham Aliyev`s receiving the participants. He stressed AzerTAc is the second most active OANA member in terms of the number of news items posted on the organization`s website.

Azerbaijan`s Trend news agency has become a member of OANA by AzerTAc`s letter of warranty.

Speaking to the event, general director of AzerTAc Aslan Aslanov praised OANA`s activity under the leadership of Indonesian ANTARA agency over the past three years, adding “I hope the organizations successes will continue under the leadership of Anadolu Agency”.

The Executive and Technical Boards meetings were also held as part of the General Assembly.

During the meeting AzerTAc was re-elected as bureau member of the Executive Board for 2010-2013.

The attendees decided to work towards marking OANA jubilee, which was established 50 years ago by the UNESCO decision.

The meeting ended with adoption of an Istanbul Declaration.

The document reflects respect for intellectual and property rights, strengthening of cooperation among members and distribution of e-data.
Anadolu Agency will host a meeting of news agencies in Istanbul, which was announced a European Capital of Culture.
