Azerbaijan’s urban planning and climate resilience initiatives are recognized globally as positive examples, said Anacláudia Rossbach, Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), during her speech at the “3rd Azerbaijan Urban Forum” (AZERBAIJANUF) held in Khankendi, APA-Economics reports.

She noted that the Forum will become a turning point in global urban policy together with the 13th World Urban Forum (WUF13) to be held in 2026.

Rossbach noted that the Forum makes an important contribution to shaping the outcomes of COP30 and WUF13, which coincides with the halfway point of the implementation of the “New Urban Agenda.” According to her, in 2026, the Global Review of the 11th Sustainable Development Goal (“Sustainable Cities and Communities”) will also be presented.

The UN official added that the theme of WUF13 will be “A World with a Home: Security and Equality,” which will increase attention to housing and urban equality issues.

“The WUF13 to be held in Baku will be a key platform for renewing global partnerships and commitments to climate-resilient urban development,” Rossbach emphasized.
