94% of the design work for the South Cargo Terminal has already been completed, and 81% of the construction work has been finalized, said Rovshan Rustamov, Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC, while briefing the delegations of the Azerbaijan-Iran-Russia trilateral meeting regarding the South Cargo Terminal, APA’s correspondent dispatched to Iran reports.
The Chairman stated that 50% of the work on the terminal’s container yard and approximately 20% in the warehouse section has been completed: “Construction of the terminal’s warehouse section has just begun. The construction of the components required for the terminal’s full functionality will be completed by the end of this year. Nothing is lacking for the terminal to operate functionally; it is already operational. Last year, 800,000 tons of cargo were transshipped through the terminal. Only a closed warehouse and several technical buildings remain, which are located outside our territory. To fully complete the terminal, a 5-hectare area outside must be acquired and handed over to us.”
