Azerbaijan has made significant investments in building a modern road network within its territory, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk told APA’s correspondent dispatched to Iran.

Noting that the North-South International Transport Corridor is used for automobile transportation, the Russian government official said that it is essential for the relevant infrastructure to function in order to ensure maximum convenience for drivers, carriers, exporters, and importers.

Emphasizing that control and crossing operations at the Russia-Azerbaijan border are being carried out effectively, Overchuk stated that achieving the same on the Iranian side is important: “At the same time, we see that Azerbaijan has invested heavily in building a modern road network on its territory. Naturally, the efficiency of the work of road carriers engaged in transporting export and import cargo and goods depends on the efficiency of the control and crossing points on the Iranian side. Today, upon entering Iran, we saw that the majority of the trucks waiting in line to enter Azerbaijan from Iran are Russian vehicles. This is very good in terms of the close trade and economic relations existing between our countries.”
