Azerbaijani President participates in opening of reconstructed Baku-Shamakhy highway

Gobustan â€“ APA. Azerbaijanâ€™s President Ilham Aliyev participated in the opening of the reconstructed Baku-Shamakhy highway, APA reports quoting AzerTAC. The head of state cut the ribbon. Transport Minister Ziya Mammadov said that Baku-Shamakhy highway had been reconstructed in line with the agreement signed between the Azerbaijani Government and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) on the project â€œAzerbaijan highway-2â€. The highway has been reconstructed basing on the up-to-date technology. The total width of the highway is 15-17m, in some places it reaches 22m. The road is two-lane, in some places four-lane. The road has been covered with 314,952 tones of coarse-grained asphalt coat. 176,235 close-grained asphalt coat have been used. 147 pipe reducers have been built, two bridges across the road repaired, five constructed. Azerbaijani President said the main factor in construction of roads is the quality. He said extra funds would be allocated for the development of road infrastructure in future.
