APA reports quoting websites owned by Syrian jihad groups, more than 30 Azerbaijanis have been killed in clashes in this country up to now.

Most of mujtahideen in Syria are from Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Iran, Egypt, Afghanistan and the North Caucasus region of Russia.

The Azerbaijanis, who are fighting against the Syrian government, came to this country from Azerbaijan, Afghanistan (who were taken combat training by Taliban) and the North Caucasus (who are battling against Russia). Though it is not clear, how they were brought to this country, it is assumed that they were involved in clashes through various sects.

Most of the Azerbaijanis gathered under Jaish al-Muhajireen wal-Ansar subversive group. The leader of the group if Azerbaijani Abu Yahya.

In video messages on mujtahideen websites and Youtube, Abu Yahya urges his Azerbaijani predecessors to fight against Bashar al-Assad in Syria.

He said that Azerbaijani mujahideen also died in the clashes in Syria.

The video shows that he professionally uses various weapons, especially anti-tank guided complexes and self-propelled anti-tank complexes.

"The Embassy is investigating whether those supposedly fighting in Syria are Azerbaijanis or not. As situation became tense, the Azerbaijani citizens registered at the consular department were evacuated from Syria. It is hard to determine the nationality and citizenship of the dead, due to the situation in Syria,” earlier Spokesman for the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Elman Abdullayev told APA.
