Man accused of Nardaran events jailed for 2 years

Baku. Shahriyar Alizade – APA. Sahib Zakiyev, who was detained over the recent events in the Nardaran township of Baku, has been sentenced to two years in prison.

On 26 November 2015, Azerbaijan’s law-enforcement authorities conducted a special operation in Nardaran.

During the operation, the police were fired from automatic weapons and met armed resistance, and hand grenades were thrown on them. As a result, four attackers were killed and several others were injured. Two police officers died during the operation. A large number of automatic weapons, hand grenades, cold steel and others were seized from the scene.

Most members of the group, including Tale Baghirov and Sahib Zakiyev were detained over the case.

Sahib Zakiyev faces charges under article #228 (illegal purchase, transfer, selling, storage, transportation or carrying of fire-arms, accessories to it, supplies (except for the smooth-bore hunting weapon and ammunition to it), explosives) of the Criminal Code.
