Trial on case of former head of Azerbaijan State Flag Square Complex continued - <span style="color: red;">UPDATED

Baku. Shahriyar Alizade â€“ APA. The Baku Court on Grave Crimes on Thursday resumed the trial of former head of Azerbaijan State Flag Square Complex Rashad Mammadov and others.

Rashad Mammadov answered questions after the break. He said the complexâ€™s structure is based on the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers, noting that the employees receive their salaries via pay card. He added that his wifeâ€™s aunt, Khuraman Gasimova, has been the chief accountant for the complex and his wife has worked at the communal services department. His wife has been granted maternity leave twice.

According to him, his brother-in-law Azer Asgarov has worked at the international department.

â€œHis job was about receiving foreign guests, promoting the flag, and supervise work in the area. Their salaries used to be calculated by the financial department on the basis of staff schedule. I met Isfandiyar Isfandiyarov and Arzu Mammadov in 2013. My brother-in-law Azer Asgarov said there were three facilities on sale in our building. So I gave Isfandiyar 6,000 manats to buy those facilities,â€ he said.

Then Isfandiyar Isfandiyarov gave testimony, saying he had mediated to buy the facility owned by Zabil Salmanov.

The trial will be resumed on June 7.

Baku. Shahriyar Alizade â€“ APA. Baku Court of Grave Crimes resumed on Thursday the trial on the criminal cases of former head of Azerbaijanâ€™s State Flag Square Complex Rashad Mammadov and others.

The judicial investigation was launched at the hearing presided over by judge Alovsat Abbasov. A public prosecutor read out the indictment. Arzu Mammadov pleaded guilty, but others pleaded not guilty.

Then, Rashad Mammadov gave a testimony.

Mammadov said he was appointed the head of Azerbaijanâ€™s State Flag Square Complex upon the presidential order in 2011.

â€œOur activity was promoting the flag and carrying out renovation works at the square. I have had enough money before the appointment. I needed nothing. I treated my employees as my family. I gave them bonuses and prizes. I was acquainted with Zabil Salmanov by Isfandiyar. I bought his property for my family. I couldnâ€™t act unworthily. Then Zabil sued against us and demanded compensation. Isfandiyar undertook to pay compensation,â€ he noted.Â

Mammadov rejected the charges against him.

The hearing will continue in the second half of the day.

The former head of Azerbaijanâ€™s State Flag Square Complex Rashad Mammadov, as well as Isfandiyar Isfandiyarov and Arzu Mammadov were detained on charges of fraud. They were sentenced to pre-trial detention.

Zabil Salmanov, who is recognized as an aggrieved person, a while ago appealed to investigating authority, noting that he has no complaint against the accused persons.

On March 4, 2016, Bakuâ€™s Sabail District Court considered the appeal filed by Rashad Mammadov on commuting his pre-trial detention. In his appeal, he mentioned that his wife suffered from a serious illness. Taking into account his appeal, the Sabail District Court released him on recognizance not to leave the country.
