The statement says that Moldovan Parliamentary Advocate Aurelia Grigoriu has recently faced threats and pressure as she accused Armenia of occupying Azerbaijani territories and committing genocide against the Azerbaijanis in Khojaly addressing the international conference in Armenia: “Aurelia Grigoriu’s rights were seriously violated and she was not allowed to return to her country. Pressure and restriction of the rights faced by a person who deals with the protection of human rights, over telling the truth, historical facts adopted by international organizations in Armenia once again proved that this country is not a legal and democratic state. According to Article #13 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights that is the first fundamental document in the field of human rights, everyone has the right to freedom of movement, to leave any country, including his own, and to return to his country. According to Article #12 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, everyone lawfully within the territory of a State shall, within that territory, have the right to liberty of movement and freedom to choose his residence and everyone shall be free to leave any country, including his own. At the same time, one of the main human rights is that everyone is free to express his/her opinion and not to be persecuted for it. Interruption of Aurelia Grigoriu during her speech by Armenian officials, obvious persecution by the competent authorities is gross violation of the European Convention on Human Rights and other international instruments. Especially, the occurrence of such an event during Armenian Chairmanship of the Committee in Ministers of the Council of Europe is an obvious example of Armenia’s failure to comply with the general principles of international law - the principle of respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms and it casts doubt on the effective chairmanship of the committee, which is one of the most important organs of the European Council, that’s main goal is the protection of human rights.
Azerbaijani Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsperson) has condemned such a gross law violation took place in Armenia against her Moldovan counterpart, called on all the international organizations, including her counterparts not to be indifferent to this case and put forward their positions.
