Ayaz Mutallibov to arrive in Baku tonight to attend his son’s funeral
“Ayaz Mutallibov intends to arrive in Baku. Preparations are being made for it,†he said.
Assistant said Ayaz Mutallibov will leave for Azerbaijan by Moscow-Baku plane.
“I can not say when Ayaz Mutallibov will leave for Baku. It will be possibly at night,†he said.
From July 1990 till August 1991, Ayaz Mutallibov was the member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and Political Bureau of the Party. On September 8, 1991, Ayaz Mutallibov was elected as president of Azerbaijan. After the tragedy committed in Khojaly by Armenians with the help of the Russian army on the night of February 25-26, the then opposition supported by the people held an extraordinary session of the Supreme Council and made Ayaz Mutallibov resign. Ayaz Mutallibov submitted his resignation on March 6, 1992.
As the commission investigating the causes of the tragedy did not find facts proving Ayaz Mutallibov’s guilt, the Supreme Council cancelled its decision and on May 14 restored him as president. But under the pressure of Azerbaijan Popular Front Party was obliged to submit his resignation again and leave the country. Since 1992 he has been living in Moscow.
He is co-chair of Azerbaijan Social Democratic Party.
Ayaz Mutallibov is accused of committing grave crimes while he was chairman of the Council of Ministers and president and after his resignation.
