Speaking about evacuation, Mirzayev said that some people didn’t want to leave their homes: “Children, women, elderly leave their homes. People are being placed in tents, kindergartens. The disaster area is constantly controlled by helicopters”.

Answering question “is there any danger for region center of Sabirabad”, Mirzayev said that there wasn’t any danger for region center yet.

Deputy Minister spoke about flood of Ulajali village by Kura River on May 11: “After flood of Mursalli village, water began to move in direction of Ulajali and other neighboring villages. There have been taken appropriate measures. We began to work on strengthening of the dam in direction of Sabirabad and Shirvan. Ministry of Emergency Situations and other ministries have involved a lot of techniques in the area within 24 hours. Within twenty-four hours it was possible to build third protective dam. The level of water was being raised 4 centimeters in every minute. And that created a risk of people and personnel working here. We began to evacuate people and personnel at about 11.00 pm. Water destroyed that dam in 4 directions at 11.00 pm. Water began to move from the center of Ulajali village in the down direction. Currently, houses located on the left and right of Ulajali village are unharmed. Main water current is moving in direction of center. Now appropriate measures are being taken. The situation is under control. There is no need to worry. State bodies will help people”.

Deputy Minister noted that cleaved dam would be closed until this evening.

Answering question “how the situation is in neighboring villages”, Mirzayev said: “The water hasn’t reached those areas yet. Probable, till the water reaches neighboring regions, we will close Mursalli dam too”.
