Turkish MFA: Latest incident proves Armenia targets civilians

The Turkish Foreign Ministry has issued a statement on the killing of civilians by Armenians in Fuzuli region, APA reports citing the ministry’s website.

The statement says that on July 4, Armenian armed forces shelled the Alkhanli village of Fizuli region with mortars and heavy grenade launchers, killing a 50-year-old woman and her 2-year-old granddaughter, wounding another woman.

“We fiercely condemn this incident. May Allah have mercy on the Azerbaijanis killed in this attack! We wish recovery for the wounded woman. This incident shows that Armenia, having occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijani territories, commits provocations on the frontline with heavy guns, targeting civilians, especially children and women. This is in contrast with the international law and human rights. The international community must know that Armenia’s aggressive policy prevents the efforts to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Armenia must be urged to leave the occupied territories. Turkey as a member of the OSCE Minsk Group will continue to offer support for the resolution of the conflict within the framework of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan,” the statement said.

On July 4, around 20:40, Armenian armed forces shelled the Alkhanly villageof Fizuli region with 82mm- and 120-mm-caliber mortars, including heavy grenade launchers.

As a result of this provocation, village residents Guliyeva Sahibe Idris gizi (1967) and Guliyeva Zakhra Elnur gizi (2015) died. Guliyeva Sarvinaz Iltifat gizi (1965) was wounded.
