Baku. Mubariz Aslanov – APA. “Currently, Azerbaijan has developed so much that it is impossible not to see it. No one can deny the changes in Azerbaijan. Today we observe that Azerbaijan has taken sufficient steps, for example unemployment rate has decreased from 50 % to 6 %. This is quite a progressive step and shows itself at the international level. Furthermore, we should also emphasize that Azerbaijan has a strong strategic importance in the region and it is an important point for us,” President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Jean-Claude Mignon said in Azerbaijan, APA reports.
Noting that the Council of Europe also has some criteria regarding Azerbaijan, PACE President said like in a number of member states, there are spheres in Azerbaijan, where there is still something to be done and the progress should be continued. “But we see that the Azerbaijani authorities have strong will to make great achievements in these spheres. But history should not be forgotten, it is not right to demand something much from a country that has newly stepped into democracy. It is in the competence of the Council of Europe to give assistance and share its experience. For example, we have strong means to combat corruption, money laundering, regarding human rights, like other member states Azerbaijan also has the right to use them,” he said.
